Karachi: Islami Jamiat Talaba at the University of Karachi held a “Justice Walk for Amna Arif” today, attracting significant participation from students and faculty members. The walk aimed to demand justice for Amna Arif and call for the immediate punishment of the perpetrator.
The march began at 12:00 PM from the university’s Point Terminal and concluded at Pharmacy Chowk. Students carried placards and banners with slogans like “Stop the Lies, Punish the Criminal” and “Justice for Amna Arif, Now!” The participants expressed their determination for swift justice and urged the administration to implement stronger safety measures for students on campus.
The Tragic Karsaz Accident
Amna Arif, a young and ambitious woman working at a private firm, lost her life in a tragic accident near Karsaz on July 31, 2024. Amna was traveling with her father, Imran Arif, when a speeding car collided with their vehicle. The accident, which occurred as they were returning home from Imran’s office, claimed the lives of both father and daughter. Amna was pursuing her MBA, supported by her father, who sold snacks to fund her education. Their untimely death sparked outrage, leading to widespread calls for justice.
Calls for Immediate Action
Prominent attendees at the Justice Walk included Barrister Uzair Ghori, the lawyer representing the deceased; Ms. Qurat-ul-Ain, President of Soch Aurat Human Rights Council; Dr. Alia Zahid Bhatti, a lecturer at the University of Karachi; and Brother Kamran Sultan Ghani, Nazim of Islami Jamiat Talaba, University of Karachi.
Barrister Uzair Ghori, a former judge, briefed the crowd on the ongoing court proceedings and emphasized that continuous student activism could lead to justice for Amna Arif. Ms. Qurat-ul-Ain highlighted the lack of personal and financial security for students in Karachi, calling it a fundamental right. Dr. Alia Bhatti strongly condemned the incident, demanding immediate punishment for the culprit and justice for Amna Arif.
