Tashkent: The UN General Assembly in New York has officially adopted a resolution proposed by Uzbekistan titled “Decade of Action on Afforestation and Reforestation in Accordance with Sustainable Forest Management.”
The resolution was co-sponsored by more than 80 countries from various regions, including Central Asian nations, Azerbaijan, Russia, Brazil, Austria, Germany, Finland, Portugal, India, Iran, Pakistan, the UAE, Qatar, and Bahrain.
This initiative is based on key proposals from the President of Uzbekistan, such as the “Year of Environmental Protection and Green Economy” program, the national “Yashil Makon” project, and the tree planting campaign “Green Belt of Central Asia.” The resolution designates the period from 2027 to 2036 as the Decade of Action on Afforestation and Reforestation and emphasizes the need for global mobilization of efforts and resources to strengthen afforestation and reforestation activities. It also urges countries and organizations to intensify relevant environmental measures.
