Karachi: The Pakistan Association of Press Photographers (PAPP) organized a notable event at the Karachi Press Club, where camera bags were distributed among members in recognition of their service. The ceremony was attended by a large number of photographers and was graced by Cemal Sangu, the Consul General of the Republic of Turkey in Karachi, as the chief guest.
Turkish Envoy Applauds Pakistani Photojournalists
Consul General Cemal Sangu thanked PAPP for the invitation and noted it was his first visit to the Karachi Press Club. He praised the contributions of photographers in promoting press freedom, calling their work crucial to both the country and democratic values. He also congratulated the photographers who received the camera bags.
PAPP Lauded for Standing with Journalists
Former PFUJ President and PAPP Trust Chairman GM Jamali highlighted the many challenges faced by journalists and press photographers. He emphasized that photographers are on the frontlines of media and play a critical role in freedom of expression. Jamali said PAPP is not just an organization, but a passion, and its presence is being felt across the country, including in Islamabad.
Photographers Called ‘Eyes of Journalism’
Renowned businessman Syed Haider Shah underscored the role of photographers in building a healthy society. He described them as the “eyes of journalism” and stated that no news story is complete without visuals. He praised PAPP for consistently supporting its members and upholding professional standards.
Community Activities and Welfare Recognized
Businessman Shaukat Jilani appreciated PAPP’s community engagement, especially the successful family picnic and the current camera bag distribution. He acknowledged the organization’s commitment to the welfare of Karachi’s press photographers.
Training and Expansion Plans Announced
PAPP President Muhammad Jameel reaffirmed the group’s mission to serve its members, noting recent initiatives like the family picnic and camera bag distribution. Secretary Noman Nizami announced that PAPP will soon host training workshops with international press photography experts and begin a new membership drive, encouraging female photographers to join the association.
Strong Turnout Highlights Unity
The ceremony was also attended by PAPP Vice President Ejaz Korai, Joint Secretary Muhammad Azeem, Treasurer Syed Imran Ali, and Governing Body members Rana Muhammad Tahir, Imran Ali, and Liaquatullah. The event concluded with a vote of thanks to Turkish Consul General Cemal Sangu and other prominent guests, reinforcing the organization’s unity and forward-looking mission.
