Karachi: Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU), the alma mater of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, commenced its 78th Independence Day celebrations under the theme “Marka-e-Haq, Jashn-e-Azadi” on Friday, following the directive of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah.
The opening ceremony featured a tree plantation drive held at the Henry Vines Garden of SMIU. Vice Chancellor Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai and Dr. Ivan Eubanks, a renowned English language expert and Director of UCCI TV at the University College of the Cayman Islands, planted saplings symbolizing growth, resilience, and commitment to a prosperous Pakistan.
Tribute to Pakistan Armed Forces and Call to Youth
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai paid rich tribute to the Armed Forces of Pakistan for their bravery and unwavering national spirit during the Indian aggression of May 2025. “Pakistan’s Armed Forces won the four-day war with exemplary courage, proving that any act of aggression will be firmly repelled—not just by the military, but by the people, political leadership, and all segments of society,” he said.
Dr. Sahrai further highlighted that the recent war was also a battle of advanced technology and artificial intelligence—one in which Pakistan triumphed.
He urged the youth to uphold the legacy of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah by protecting national interests and serving the country with integrity, patriotism, and dedication.
Independence Day Activities from August 1 to 14
Dr. Sahrai announced that SMIU has planned a series of events from August 1 to August 14 in celebration of Independence Day, including academic programs, cultural performances, and community initiatives.
The ceremony was attended by university deans, chairpersons, sectional heads, faculty members, staff, and students, marking a united beginning to the patriotic celebrations at the historic institution.
