During a surprise visit to two schools in Korangi on Monday, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah lauded the efforts of non-profit organizations collaborating with the provincial government to provide quality education to children in underserved areas. These partnerships, leveraging modern digital learning systems, aim to bridge the educational gap in remote regions of Sindh.
Surprise Visits to SEF-Partnered Schools
The Chief Minister appreciated the initiatives led by non-governmental organizations in partnership with the Sindh Education Foundation (SEF). His first stop was the Green Crescent Trust (GCT) school in Bilal Colony, where Principal Irum Fatima shared that 559 students from low-income families are enrolled, with classes ranging from preschool to eighth grade.
SEF supports such schools with Rs. 1,300 per student per month. Addressing the principal’s concern about the inability to enroll over 1,000 additional children due to capacity constraints, Mr. Shah assured government assistance to expand facilities and instructed the Education Minister to monitor SEF-affiliated schools regularly.
Digital Micro School in Awami Colony
The Chief Minister also visited a Digital Micro School in Awami Colony. This school uses tablet computers to educate 100 children from underprivileged backgrounds who were previously out of school. Mr. Shah reviewed the innovative use of digital tools for teaching English and Mathematics and suggested extending this technology to other schools if successful.
Engaging with Families and Residents

Addressing High Dropout Rates and Expanding Access
After his school visits, the Chief Minister chaired a meeting at CM House to address the alarming 46% dropout rate among students completing primary education. To mitigate this, he directed the School Education Department to introduce afternoon shifts for middle school classes in primary schools.
Education Minister Syed Sardar Shah revealed plans to upgrade 2,000 schools over three years and reconstruct 4,039 flood-damaged schools with a Rs. 116 billion budget. These efforts aim to improve access for the 7.8 million out-of-school children in the province.
Strengthening School Infrastructure
The Chief Minister approved 74 new schemes under the Annual Development Program (ADP) for additional classrooms and 140 schemes to upgrade primary schools. He also announced plans to transform the School Infrastructure Development (SID) Project into a company to streamline maintenance and procurement for school facilities.
Reforming Curriculum and Teacher Training
Mr. Shah directed the Sindh Textbook Board to focus on publishing and distribution, while the Directorate of Curriculum, Assessment, and Research (DCCAR) will handle textbook development. The Chief Minister also emphasized the importance of private schools, which cater to 40% of students, and announced measures to ensure quality teaching and compliance with regulations, including a 10% freeship policy.
Improved Monitoring and Evaluation
To enhance oversight, Mr. Shah approved the creation of inspector positions within the Directorate of Private Schools. These inspectors will ensure effective monitoring, evaluation, and adherence to policies across private schools in Sindh.
