Karachi: A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed between the Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA) and Sindh Emergency Rescue Service 1122 to improve workplace safety, emergency preparedness, and disaster management within the leather and tanning industry. The agreement was formalized by PTA Chairman Danish Aman and Sindh Emergency Rescue Service 1122 Director General Dr. Abid Sheikh.
This collaboration aims to prioritize the protection of laborers in the leather and tanning sectors, emphasizing the importance of health and safety standards. Chairman Danish Aman highlighted the commitment to ensuring worker safety, stating, “Providing protection to the laborers of the leather and tanning industry is our first priority.”
Key Initiatives Under the MOU
Emergency Response Preparedness:
Under this agreement, Rescue 1122 will conduct regular training sessions and simulations to equip tannery workers for emergencies, including fires, chemical spills, and other industrial accidents.
Safety Audits and Drills:
Rescue 1122 will collaborate with the PTA to perform safety audits at tannery facilities, ensuring compliance with safety protocols. Regular mock drills will also be organized to enhance readiness among workers and management.
Public Awareness and Training Campaigns:
The MOU focuses on raising awareness about health and safety measures among tannery workers. Rescue 1122 will provide first aid training, fire safety education, and disaster response techniques to empower workers and management to effectively handle emergencies.
Resource Sharing and Coordination:
This agreement will foster improved coordination between the two parties, enhancing resource allocation, including the provision of emergency equipment, personnel deployment, and communication channels during crises.
