Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday hoisted the national flag at the Pakistan Monument, symbolizing national unity and strength, to mark the country’s 78th Independence Day.
The ceremony, attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, Senate Chairman Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, federal ministers, and dozens of students, began with a warm welcome for the Prime Minister. Children dressed in traditional attire presented him with flowers upon his arrival.
Wearing a black sherwani over a white shalwar kameez, the Prime Minister raised the national flag as the crowd stood for the national anthem, followed by patriotic songs. He then laid a wreath at the monument and offered prayers for Pakistan’s peace, prosperity, and progress.
The day began with a 31-gun salute in Islamabad and 21-gun salutes in all provincial capitals to mark the occasion.
Separately, Senator Aimal Wali Khan called on the Prime Minister to extend an invitation to the All Parties Conference organized by the Awami National Party (ANP). PM Shehbaz directed the formation of a Pakistan Muslim League-N committee to represent the party in the conference.
Senator Aimal Wali Khan congratulated the Prime Minister on Independence Day, and the two leaders discussed the overall political situation. Advisor to the Prime Minister Rana Sanaullah and Special Assistant Talha Burki were also present at the meeting.
