Islamabad: The National Security Committee (NSC) on Wednesday strongly condemned India’s unprovoked and unlawful strikes on Pakistani territory, authorizing the Pakistan Armed Forces to take “corresponding actions” in response to the loss of innocent civilian lives.

The NSC, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, declared that Pakistan reserves the right to self-defence in line with Article 51 of the UN Charter and will respond at a time and manner of its choosing.

“The Armed Forces of Pakistan have been duly authorized to undertake corresponding actions in this regard,” read the official press release issued after the high-level meeting.

Unprovoked Indian Attacks Target Civilian Areas

The NSC said that coordinated missile, air, and drone attacks by Indian forces during the night of May 6–7, 2025, struck several locations across Pakistan, including Sialkot, Shakargarh, Muridke, Bahawalpur, Kotli, and Muzaffarabad.

The strikes deliberately targeted civilian populations, resulting in the martyrdom of innocent men, women, and children, as well as damage to homes, mosques, and infrastructure.

India Endangered Regional Peace and Civil Aviation

The committee noted that India’s reckless aggression also endangered commercial flights from friendly Gulf nations, putting thousands of passengers at risk. It added that the Neelum-Jhelum Hydropower Project was also intentionally targeted, in violation of international agreements.

The NSC described the attack as a “heinous and shameful crime” and a “blatant violation” of international law and Pakistan’s sovereignty.

Pakistan Rejects Indian Claims of Terror Camps

The NSC reiterated that Pakistan had consistently rejected India’s baseless allegations regarding the presence of terrorist camps within its borders. Following Indian accusations after April 22, Pakistan offered a transparent and neutral investigation, which India refused.

Furthermore, international journalists had already visited the alleged sites on May 6, with more visits planned for May 7, to verify the facts on the ground.

“Apprehensive of being exposed, the Indian leadership, without any evidence, chose to attack innocent civilians to fulfill short-sighted political objectives,” the statement said.

Pakistan Downs Indian Aircraft, Defends Territory

In line with its April 22 response framework, Pakistan’s armed forces successfully defended its territory, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The NSC confirmed that five Indian fighter jets and drones were shot down during the operation.

The nation, the NSC stated, remains united and deeply appreciates the armed forces’ courage and swift response in protecting the motherland.

Call for Global Accountability of India’s Actions

The NSC urged the international community to recognize the seriousness of India’s unlawful aggression and to hold New Delhi accountable for its violations of international norms and human rights.

“Pakistan remains committed to peace with dignity and honour, and will never tolerate any violation of its sovereignty or harm to its proud people,” the committee concluded.
