Karachi: A captivating exhibition featuring the artwork of internationally acclaimed artist Jimmy Engineer was held at the Ocean Art Gallery in Clifton, Karachi. The event was inaugurated by Muhammad Ahmed Shah, President of the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi, alongside Jimmy Engineer and artist Shahid Rassam.
The exhibition showcased a stunning collection of Engineer’s paintings, including scenes depicting migration during the Partition of Pakistan, historical landmarks, and portrayals of human psychological issues. Each artwork deeply highlighted Engineer’s exceptional skill and emotional depth.
Muhammad Ahmed Shah Praises Jimmy Engineer’s Artistic Contribution
In his address, Muhammad Ahmed Shah praised Jimmy Engineer as one of the great artists of our time. He acknowledged Engineer’s global reputation and his efforts in promoting Pakistan’s positive image through his art. “Engineer is not just an artist but a humanitarian. His contributions to both the arts and society have played a significant role in his success,” said Ahmed Shah. He further mentioned Engineer’s creation of around 1,500 calligraphy pieces and his focus on historical buildings of Pakistan. “Engineer’s engineering family background is evident in his work, and it’s admirable to see him nurturing young artists,” he added.
Jimmy Engineer Reflects on His Artistic Journey
Renowned artist Jimmy Engineer expressed his gratitude to Muhammad Ahmed Shah for his continued support and efforts to showcase Pakistan’s culture globally. He acknowledged Ahmed Shah’s influential role in promoting Pakistan’s positive image worldwide. “I am deeply inspired by Ahmed Shah’s personality and his global endeavors for Pakistan,” said Engineer.
Exhibition Details and Jimmy Engineer’s Artistic Legacy
The exhibition at the Ocean Art Gallery will remain open until February 19, 2025. Jimmy Engineer has created over 2,000 paintings, 1,000 pieces of calligraphy, and around 20,000 prints, which are displayed in private collections worldwide, including in China, India, Russia, the UK, and the USA. One of his famous works, depicting Pakistan’s independence, is housed at the National Art Gallery in Islamabad.
Engineer, a graduate of St. Anthony’s High School in Lahore and the National College of Arts (NCA), Lahore, has made significant contributions not only as an artist but also as a social activist and stamp designer. He designed several stamps, including one to commemorate Pakistan’s independence in 2000.
The exhibition provides a unique opportunity for art enthusiasts to explore Jimmy Engineer’s legacy and his contribution to the cultural landscape of Pakistan.
