Karachi: The Italian Navy’s warship Alpino has arrived at Karachi Port for a three-day visit. The ship is part of the Italian Carrier Strike Group and comes equipped with advanced technology. Italian Ambassador to Pakistan, Marilena Armellin, said that both nations are working closely on defense cooperation. She also noted that Italy showcases its military technology at the IDEAS exhibition in Karachi.
Strengthening Relations
Speaking at Karachi Port, Ambassador Armellin shared that this is the fourth visit of an Italian naval ship to Karachi. However, it is the first time an air strike carrier has arrived. She pointed out that trade between Pakistan and Italy has grown to 2 billion dollars, with more improvements expected. She added that the two countries focus on more than just politics and defense, with trade and cooperation also playing a key role.
Showcasing Military Strength
During a media briefing, the Alpino commander explained the ship’s advanced combat aircraft and defense systems. Italy wants to promote its defense technology and hopes to spark interest in these vessels. Italian Consul General in Karachi, Danilo Giordiniella, and officers from the Pakistan Navy were also present to support the visit.
Admiral Stefano Barbieri stated that Italy plans to increase defense cooperation and help strengthen Pakistan’s navy.
Italy’s Commitment to Cooperation
Ambassador Armellin reaffirmed Italy’s commitment to building stronger defense ties with Pakistan. She said Italy recognizes Pakistan’s strategic importance and is keen to form new defense agreements. She also confirmed Italy’s involvement in the upcoming IDEAS defense exhibition, where more opportunities for collaboration will be explored.
