Islamabad: The Embassy of Ethiopia in Islamabad and the United Nations in Pakistan have agreed to work together to mobilize international participation in the upcoming 2nd United Nations Food Systems Summit Stocktake, scheduled for July 27–29, 2025, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The agreement was reached during a meeting between H.E. Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula, Special Envoy and Ambassador Extraordinary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to Pakistan, and H.E. Mr. Mohamed Yahya, UN Resident Coordinator in Pakistan.
Both sides discussed the strategic importance of Pakistani leadership’s involvement in the high-profile summit, which is being co-hosted by Ethiopia and Italy.
Ambassador Jemal briefed the UN official on Ethiopia’s extensive preparations for the summit, aimed at reviewing global food system progress and enhancing collaboration for sustainable transformation. He underlined the efforts led by Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed, highlighting initiatives such as the Green Legacy Initiative, Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, and the Bounty of Basket program.
Mr. Yahya praised Ethiopia’s leadership on climate action, afforestation, and food security, and assured the Ambassador of his full support in ensuring the summit’s success and advancing shared goals of food systems resilience.
