Mumbai: Veteran Bollywood actor Govinda, 60, sustained a bullet injury at his Juhu residence early Tuesday morning after his licensed revolver accidentally misfired. The incident occurred at around 4:45 am as the actor prepared to leave for a flight to Kolkata, according to Mumbai Police.
Govinda was alone at home during the accident, his manager, Shashi Sinha, confirmed. “We had a 6 am flight to Kolkata for a show. Govinda ji was about to leave when the revolver accidentally fell from the cupboard and discharged,” Sinha explained.
Minor Injury and Quick Recovery
The bullet struck Govinda’s leg below the knee, but by “God’s grace,” the injury was minor. The actor was rushed to Criticare Hospital in Juhu, where doctors successfully extracted the bullet. His condition is stable, and he has since returned home. Govinda’s wife, Sunita Ahuja, flew back to Mumbai from Kolkata upon hearing the news, while their daughter Tina stayed by his side during his treatment.
In an audio message to fans, Govinda expressed his gratitude for their support. “I was hit by a bullet, but it has been extracted. I thank the doctors and my fans for their prayers,” the actor said.
Investigation Underway
Despite the incident, Govinda has not filed a formal complaint. Mumbai Police are investigating the circumstances, and there are no signs of foul play. “It appears to be an unfortunate accident,” a police official stated.
