Karachi: The sports gala at Jinnah University for Women (JUW), Nazimabad, concluded with a vibrant closing ceremony, showcasing the talents of over 300 students across six sports competitions.
Exciting Competitions and Winners
The four-day event, organized by the JUW Sports Club with support from AO Hospital, ECS, and the Sindh Government’s Sports Department, featured thrilling contests in table tennis, scrabble, chess, throwball, tug-of-war, and cricket.
In table tennis, Urooj Fatima from the International Relations department claimed the title by defeating Malaika Hashmi from Pharmacy. In Scrabble, the Psychology department emerged victorious, with Dua Arshad from Commerce securing second place and Urooj Fatima finishing third.
Defending chess champion Ayesha Qureshi from the Education Department retained her title, while Elishba Shafiq from Pharmacy secured second place, and Aheela Noor took third.
The Science team clinched first place in the throwball competition, while the Social Science team showcased their strength in tug-of-war. In the cricket final, the Science team triumphed over the Social Science team, with Mah Noor earning the title of Best Player.
Encouraging Women in Sports
Former Sindh Assembly member Dr. Syed Imran Ali Shah, the chief guest, praised the talent of Pakistani women in sports and emphasized the need for continued support. He urged parents to encourage their daughters to participate in athletics.
Chancellor of Jinnah University for Women, Wajih Uddin Ahmed, highlighted the importance of promoting sports alongside education, assuring students of increased opportunities for healthy activities.
The prize distribution ceremony was attended by Vice Chancellor Dr. Naeemur Rehman, Sports Officer District Central Hajra Nawab, Mrs. Asma Ali Shah, women cricketer Shabnam Hayat, Director of Sports Rabia Karim, and a large number of students.
