Karachi: The President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI), Atif Ikram Sheikh, has emphasized the need for better coordination between the business community and the Government of Sindh to foster a business-friendly environment and attract large-scale, multi-sectoral industrial investments in the province.
Atif Ikram Sheikh acknowledged Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s recent meeting with top industrialists, where he assured his support for economic growth, investment, and trade development in Sindh. During the session, Chairman PPP and Sindh Chief Minister also briefed the business community on the province’s ongoing mega infrastructure projects aimed at boosting economic activity.
Government of Sindh Engages Business Community
Ms. Syeda Tehseen Abidi, spokesperson for the Government of Sindh, visited Federation House on Wednesday to address the concerns and recommendations of business, industry, and trade leaders under the FPCCI platform.
During the discussions, Atif Ikram Sheikh proposed the establishment of a dedicated working group or committee between the FPCCI and the provincial government. This initiative aims to:
- Enhance business community confidence by ensuring accessibility to government officials.
- Streamline communication for swift resolution of issues related to law and order, infrastructure, taxation, labor regulations, and traffic management.
Industrial Expansion and Infrastructure Development
Senior Vice President FPCCI, Saquib Fayyaz Magoon, urged the Sindh government to establish two to three new industrial zones across the province and upgrade existing zones with essential infrastructure and amenities to support business growth.
Ms. Syeda Tehseen Abidi reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to making Sindh the most investor-friendly region in Pakistan. She highlighted PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s recent inauguration of the first phase of the Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Expressway (Shahrah-e-Bhutto), which will be completed in the next three to four months. Spanning approximately 39 km, the expressway will link Korangi Creek Avenue (DHA) to the M-9 Motorway near Kathore, significantly reducing travel time and transportation costs. She added that this project is among Sindh’s most significant Public-Private Partnership initiatives, aiming to boost regional connectivity and industrial expansion.
The meeting concluded with both parties reiterating their commitment to fostering a collaborative approach for economic growth, industrial development, and investment facilitation in Sindh.
