Karachi: German Consul General Dr. Rüdiger Lotz has concluded his three-year tenure in Pakistan, expressing deep appreciation for the warmth and hospitality he received in Karachi. “I am leaving Pakistan, especially Karachi, with many fond memories. I received immense warmth and affection here, which I will never forget,” he said during a farewell dinner hosted by the Economic Diplomacy Forum and Hashmi Group at a local club.
Prominent Personalities Attend Farewell Reception
The dinner was attended by a large number of dignitaries from the diplomatic corps, business sector, and civil society. Dr. Lotz was presented with a shield by Dr. Muhammad Farooq Afzal and a gift pack by Dr. Rashid Hashmi, Chairman of the Hashmi Group.
Among the notable attendees were the Consuls General of Japan, China, Türkiye, Sri Lanka, Iraq, Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh, Head of Trade Mission of Vietnam, Deputy Consul Generals of the USA and Oman, and Honorary Consuls of Malawi, Ivory Coast, Philippines, and Ethiopia. Also present were senior officials including Home Secretary Iqbal Memon, Zubair Chhaya, Moeenuddin Haider, and others.
Strengthening Bilateral Ties in Multiple Sectors
Dr. Lotz highlighted efforts made during his tenure to enhance cooperation in trade, education, culture, and social development. He emphasized encouraging more foreign investment in Karachi and facilitating people-to-people contacts between Germany and Pakistan. Despite challenges, he remained focused on strengthening the long-standing partnership between the two nations.
Motiwala and Afzal Praise German Consul General’s Contributions
Zubair Motiwala, Chairman BMG, acknowledged Germany’s significant role as a leading importer of Pakistani textiles and emphasized the importance of continued collaboration in the sector. He also recognized the strong mutual support shared by Germany and Pakistan on international forums.
Dr. Muhammad Farooq Afzal commended Dr. Lotz for opening new chapters in bilateral relations and deepening cultural and educational cooperation. He described the consul general’s departure as a great loss for Pakistan and expressed hope for his return in an even greater diplomatic role.
