Sukkur: On the 72nd birth anniversary of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, the foundation stone for the Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Flyover was laid at Gudani Phaatak — a major development initiative announced by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for the citizens of Sukkur.
Sindh Government Spokesperson and Mayor of Sukkur, Barrister Arslan Islam Sheikh, laid the foundation stone on Saturday. The project, estimated to cost Rs1.5 billion, includes a 700-foot-long, 40-foot-wide flyover stretching from PTCL Exchange to Gudani Phaatak and the construction and repair of 3.8 kilometers of modern roads.
“This is more than a development scheme — it signals a bright future for Sukkur,” said Barrister Sheikh during the ceremony.
The roadworks include:
- A 60-foot-wide road from Gudani Phaatak to Bhossa Line Chowk
- A 40-foot-wide road from Exhibition Chowk (Zoo) to Qureshi Goth
- A 30-foot-wide road from Mirani Mohalla to Ring Road
- A 24-foot-wide road from Pir Murad Shah to Micro Colony
- Repair of the 70-foot road from Shikarpur Phaatak to Qureshi Road
The flyover is expected to connect Old Sukkur and Qureshi Goth, directly benefiting over 300,000 citizens and linking the city’s two main talukas.
A modern zoo is also under construction, intended to become a key recreational and environmental hub for the area.
Barrister Sheikh called the project a tribute to Shaheed Benazir Bhutto’s lifelong struggle for democracy and public welfare. A 100-pound cake was cut at the ceremony, followed by prayers for her.
