The promotion acknowledges General Munir’s pivotal role in securing Pakistan’s national interests, particularly his leadership in major operations such as Operation Bunyān Marsūs and Ma’raka-e-Haq. From Intelligence Chief to Field Marshal
General Asim Munir is the first COAS in Pakistan’s history to lead both Military Intelligence (MI) and Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). This rare distinction underscores his deep understanding of internal and external security landscapes.
Appointed as the 17th Chief of Army Staff on November 24, 2022, by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, General Munir assumed command during a challenging geopolitical phase. Prior to this, he served as Quartermaster General at GHQ and commanded the XXX Corps in Gujranwala (2019–2021).
