Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called on Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Kuwait to play their role in urging India to de-escalate tensions in South Asia, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to peace and stability in the region.
PM Meets Saudi Ambassador
During a meeting with Saudi Ambassador Nawaf bin Saeed Al-Malkiy at the Prime Minister’s House, PM Shehbaz reiterated that Pakistan condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.
He said Pakistan has made immense sacrifices in the fight against terrorism not only for its own security but for global peace. “It is inconceivable for Pakistan to jeopardize its hard-earned economic stability with any irresponsible action,” he said.
Rejecting India’s baseless accusations linking Pakistan to the Pahalgam incident, the prime minister once again demanded a transparent and neutral international investigation into the matter.
He expressed gratitude to the Saudi leadership for their continued support and conveyed warm wishes to King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
The Saudi ambassador appreciated Pakistan’s stance and reiterated Saudi Arabia’s desire to work with Pakistan for regional peace and stability.
PM Briefs UAE Envoy
In a separate meeting, the prime minister met with UAE Ambassador Hamad Obaid Ibrahim Al-Zaabi and conveyed his warm wishes to President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Sharing Pakistan’s position on the post-Pahalgam situation, PM Shehbaz said Pakistan has been one of the biggest victims of terrorism, having lost over 90,000 lives and incurred economic damages of more than USD 152 billion.
He said India’s recent provocations were distracting Pakistan from its counter-terrorism efforts. The baseless allegations by New Delhi were a desperate attempt to malign Pakistan, he added.
Reaffirming that Pakistan was committed to peace, the prime minister urged the UAE to use its diplomatic influence to help defuse regional tensions. He stressed that Pakistan would never act in a manner that could endanger peace or economic progress.
The UAE ambassador assured the premier of his country’s commitment to supporting peace in the region.
Kuwait Reaffirms Support for Peace
Later, PM Shehbaz also held a meeting with Kuwaiti Ambassador Nasser Abdulrahman Jasser and briefed him on Pakistan’s perspective regarding regional developments.
He conveyed greetings to the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and looked forward to the early visit of Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah.
PM Shehbaz reiterated Pakistan’s rejection of India’s unfounded allegations over the Pahalgam incident and renewed the call for an impartial international investigation.
He emphasized that Pakistan is currently focused on consolidating its recent economic progress with the help of friendly nations and cannot afford any regional instability.
The Kuwaiti ambassador appreciated Pakistan’s efforts and said Kuwait shared Pakistan’s vision for peace and stability in South Asia.
